About us

What is Not So-So?

Well first let’s talk about ‘so-so’. So-so is average. Boring. Typical. Generic. Not actually bad, but somehow all the worse for it. It’s all those things in life that look like they ought to be fun or relaxing or entertaining but end up just being dull. Restaurants with cartwheels by the door. Museums where the elevator is the most interesting exhibit. ‘Concept’ bars. You’ve been there: you’ve felt their dreadful average-ness. That’s why four brave internetty people decided to find a way to filter down all the knowledge on the internet - so that people could confidently find and share tips with each other on only the not so-so things in their worlds.

Why use Not So-So?

Not So-So starts with the simple idea that the vast majority of us rely more on the personal opinions of the people around us than on all the professional reviews, guides and write ups we might read. We’ve just extended that circle of like-minded people outwards: every user’s profile is based on the tips they share, so it’s always clear just how much their views and tastes are likely to match your own. We call it a ‘lifestyle aggregator’. A whole internet’s worth of the sort of fantastic eating/drinking/culture/travel tips you’d normally only trust from close friends.

How does it work?

So, what can you actually do with the site? How’s this for starters:
- Follow tips on the things that rock your world from people whose worlds are rocked in similar ways
- See who finds your tips interesting and keep track of the things they’ve found
- Have personalised tips presented on a map of where you live or want to visit
- Quickly tag your favourite tips and save them for later.
- Rate and review other people’s tips so that the best ones have the highest ranking
- Follow your friends’ tips via an RSS feed - you can follow all tips or only the tips of one specific (sub)category

Who’s behind all this?

There are currently four Not So-So regulars, drawn from a variety of backgrounds in business, technology and design. We work in the Belgian cities of Antwerp and Brussels but our DNA is thoroughly international.
Jean Verschure manages business development. The two Peters (Peter Dekens & Pierre Toussaint) look after the day-to-day running of the site and its infrastructure. And Thomas Huret is responsable for site development. Along the way, we’ve also been lucky to work with some truly talented people. Many thanks to Leriette Desir van Bergen for the Not So-So graphics, Johan Janssens for the pre-alpha coding, Ine Dehandschutter for the Blogging magic and Henry Scott for the words. Give them all the work you can.
